š Karine's Rat-Catching Mission: Upgrading from a Peanut Butter Beer Can Trap to the Ratinator

Anyone who lives on acreage knows that ranch life is full of surprises. Some days you're fixing fences, feeding horses, or mowing pastures. Other days, you're launching a covert operation to catch a gang of ranch rats.
After experimenting with her homemade peanut butter beer can rat trap, Karine decided it was time to step up her game. The homemade trap had shown promise, but with persistent rat activity around the property, she wanted to see if a professional solution could deliver even better results.
Enter the Ratinator.
Designed to humanely capture multiple rats at one time, the Ratinator seemed like the perfect upgrade for the mission. Armed with peanut butter, determination, and a healthy dose of optimism, Karine carefully set the trap and began what would become one of the more entertaining ranch projects we've tackled recently.
Of course, every successful operation needs a support team. In this case, Tim was recruited to assistāor perhaps more accurately, to watch and provide commentary while Karine handled the important work. As the trap began to do its job, the excitement grew. Would the Ratinator outperform the homemade beer can trap?
One of the goals throughout the project was to handle the situation humanely. Once the rats were captured, we transported them away from the property and released them far down the road. While ranch life often requires solving problems, we always try to do so with respect for the animals involved.
As if the rat-catching adventure wasn't enough for one day, Mother Nature decided to add another challenge. A torrential Texas rainstorm rolled through the area, soaking the ranch and transforming routine evening chores into a muddy adventure.
Despite the rain, the horses still needed their dinner.
One of the most important parts of the evening was checking on Gus, who continues his recovery from laminitis. Many of you have been following his progress, and we're happy to report that he's continuing to improve. Recovery takes time, patience, and careful management, but seeing him make steady progress is encouraging for all of us.
The combination of rat-catching, heavy rain, horse care, and everyday ranch life made for one memorable day here at Ranchette Dreams. It's a reminder that life on a small ranch is never boring, and sometimes the most unexpected projects turn into the best stories.
